The Studio on Apple TV+

Apple TV+

1. The Studio

Similar to how Carmy is just trying to make it in the restaurant biz, Matt Remick, the new head of Continental Studios, played by Seth Rogen, is working to find his footing in Hollywood in The Studio.

He loves movies and has the resume to back it up. But the problem is that masterminding a production studio is much different than just being a film fanatic, as he's forced to balance his creative aspirations with the demands of directors, all while protecting the studio's bottom line.

The satirical comedy series, which was co-created by Seth Rogen, also includes a ton of celebrity cameos you won't want to miss. It can be streamed on Apple TV+.

Julia on HBO Max

HBO Max

2. Julia

Whether you grew up watching Julia Child on TV or just respect her legacy, you'll want to check out Julia. It premiered on HBO Max in 2022 and is based on the life of the chef, showing how the publication of her book, Mastering the Art of French Cooking, sparked her career. Julia went on to launch one of America's first cooking shows, The French Chef.

The series has two seasons and explores the challenges she faced in sharing her culinary skills and knowledge with the nation. Sarah Lancashire plays Julia Child, and other cast members include David Hyde Pierce, Bebe Neuwirth, Fran Kranz, Brittany Bradford, and Fiona Glascott.

Sweetbitter

Starz

3. Sweetbitter

Author Stephanie Danler published Sweetbitter in 2016. Then, the book inspired a TV show of the same name, which debuted in 2022.

It's reminiscent of The Bear since it centers on a 21-year-old named Tess who moves to Manhattan and begins working at a fancy restaurant as a waitress. But instead of showing the drama that goes on in the kitchen, Sweetbitter hones in on the politics of restaurant hospitality.

Tess is played by Ella Purnell (Yellowjackets) and supporting cast members include Tom Sturridge, Evan Jonigkeit, Eden Epstein, Jasmine Matthews, Daniyar, Paul Sparks, Jimmie Saito, and more. You can stream Sweetbitter on Hulu or Prime Video.

From Scratch on Netflix

Netflix

4. From Scratch

If you're more into romantic dramas, don't sleep on From Scratch. Zoe Saldaña and Eugenio Mastrandrea star as Amy and Lino. The former is an Art student who relocates to Florence, Italy, and there, she falls in love with Lino, a Sicilian chef.

You can expect to see mouthwatering Italian food, relatable family drama, and, of course, a budding romance that gives you butterflies. From Scratch is available to stream on Netflix.

Boiling Point

BBC

5. Boiling Point

Boiling Point has a lot in common with The Bear, except for the fact that it's a UK miniseries. Nonetheless, the plot is home to some serious overlap.

It follows a sous-chef named Carly, who takes over her boss's business after he suffers a heart attack. Boiling Point has just four episodes, but that doesn't make it any less intense or thrilling.

The miniseries stars Vinette Robinson, Hannah Walters, Izuka Hoyle, Stephen Hannah Traylen, Gary Lamont, and more. You can watch Boiling Point on Prime Video.

Feed The Beast

AMC

6. Feed The Beast

Have you ever dreamt of opening a restaurant with your friend? That's what characters Tommy and Dion, played by David Schwimmer (Friends) and Jim Sturgess (Apartment 7A), do in Feed The Beast, but with more heart-wrenching motivations.

Tommy is grappling with grief following his wife's death and views the restaurant as a way to discover his purpose; meanwhile, Dion is trying to restart his life after being in prison and wants to put his cooking skills to use.

Released in 2016, Feed The Beast is packed with emotion, drama, and high-stakes situations. Stream it on AMC+.

Master of None

Netflix

7. Master of None

This 2015 Netflix comedy series, co-created by Aziz Ansari, is actually loosely based on his real life. Aziz stars as Dev Shah, an actor in New York City who's just trying to determine what he wants in terms of both his career and personal relationships.

Master of None is a relatable tribute to young adulthood, and other cast members include Eric Wareheim, Lena Waithe, and Noël Wells. All three seasons are available to stream on Netflix.

Shrinking

Apple TV+

8. Shrinking

Finally, Jason Segel fans were blessed with Shrinking back in 2023. He stars as a therapist who, after the death of his wife, decides to go against the ethical rules of therapy. How? Well, he begins telling his patients what he really thinks, and it actually seems to make a big difference in his life, as well as the lives of his clients.

Other stars you can look forward to seeing in Shrinking include Harrison Ford, Jessica Williams, Christa Miller, Luke Tennie, Michael Urie, Lukita Maxwell, and Ted McGinley. You can catch both seasons of the show on Apple TV+.
